China Open Singles Competition; David Ferrer & Caroline Wozniacki advances into the semi final
The Spanish tennis player David Ferrer has reached the semi final round of the 2010 ATP China Open Singles Competition with a two setter win over world number five Robin Soderling of Sweden on Friday.The final match score was 6-2,
6-4.
Ferrer started the Asian swing in good form last week with a final four appearance at the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur where he was eventually lost at the hands of Golubev. The Spaniard is attempting to qualify for the year ending
ATP World Tour Barclays in London on the very first occasion since 2007, when he made his way into the title battle.
The eight seed David went into the match against Robin having only defeated the Swede on two occasions in their past nine encounters. However he made a superb start, breaking serve during the third and the seventh game to secure
a lead of one set in only twenty six minutes in Beijing. He then rallied from a deficit of 1-3 in the following set to grab five of the next six games and register a win.
The twenty five year old Soderling on the other hand despite losing, is still in a very good position to qualify for the season ending Finals as he is currently ranked number five in the world by the Association of tennis professionals.
David, as a result of this victory will next take on the winner of the match between Andy Murray and Ivan Ljubicic.
In the women’s draw, the new top ranked tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark bundled out her Serbian tennis foe, Ana Ivanovic to advance into the semi final round of the WTA China Open on Friday. The final match score was 7-6
(7-1) 6-4.
Ana, who is also a former top ranked tennis player in the world, battled back from 5-2 to 5-4 however at last lost the match at the hands of Dane in Beijing. The clash concluded in a time period of fifty four minutes on Friday.
Meanwhile, Vera Zvonareva of Russian also surpassed Francesca Schiavone in straight sets on Friday. The final match score was 6-0 6-2.The clash was stretched to a time period of fifty four minutes in Beijing.
Next up for Vera is the home favourite Li Na who is seeded number nine at the 2010 China Open. Li made her way into the next round after beating Anastasija Sevastova, a qualifier in two sets. The final match score was 7-6 (8-6)
