China and Japan authenticate their participation in the 2011 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series
The swimming associations of China and Japan have confirmed their participation in the fifth stop of the 2011 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series to be held in Singapore from November 4-5.
Both countries have registered the entries of their athletes for the stop of the swimming World Cup. The Asian teams will be represented by ten players each, where the Chinese team will be led by Jiao Liuyang.
Liuyang is the silver medallist of Women’s 200m butterfly category at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, while the Chinese pocketed the gold medal of the same event at the 2011 World Championships.
The Chinese squad will also include Bai Anqi, who won the gold medal of the 200m back-stroke at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. In addition, Asian Games gold medallist, Lv Zhiwu of China is also expected to compete at the Singapore meet of the world cup.
Furthermore, the Japanese team will be accompanied by Shiho Sakai, Naoya Tomita, Kosuke Hagino and Kanako Watanabe. Sakai is the gold medallist of the 100m and 200m back-stroke events at the 2011 World Universiade Games, while Tomita captured the title of
200m breast-stroke at the 2010 World Short Course Championships, which were held in Dubai.
The world cup series will conclude on November 13 after the completion of all seven stops of the competition. The first stop of the world cup series will take place on October 7-8 in Dubai, which will be followed by Stockholm, Sweden, where the meet will
be staged from October 15-16. Subsequently, the third stop of the series will take place on October 18-19 in Moscow and then, the fourth leg is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, from October 22-23.
Australian comeback king, Ian Thorpe is also expected to compete at the Singapore stop, but his entry has not been received by the Singapore Association. With the presence of swimming giants in the competition, the Singapore meet is expected to put forward
some interesting meets as the best in the world are set to compete in the event.
