How does China already have 35 gold medals when all they got four years ago was 32?

They've got three more than Athens, but yet another week to collect gold.

  1. Don't worry we'll come back, They'll probably win in Gold but only by a small amount. We should definitely win in Total amount tho.

  2. Yes that is soooo brilliant.

  3. Hometown advantage. They've been training in that crappy air for their entire lives. Our athletes are probably hindered, at least a little bit.  Look at Olympic medal history, the host country almost always wins more medals than they normally do.

  4. They have prepared well for this Olympic.

  5. I can't believe the anti-American answers I always come across on Yahoo Answers in regards to the Olympics.

Let me clear a few things up...

First of all stop accusing the US of being jealous of China.  What is there to be jealous of?  This is China's first year ever to win the Olympics.   America has won more than anyone except for perhaps Russia.

Second of all, there is nothing wrong with inquiring about China cheating.  They do it in other areas as well.  They constantly steal our technology and try to claim they invented it. And in these particular Olympics there are plenty of grounds to go by to inquire whether or not China is cheating.  Just because we are looking into this and wondering about this, doesn't make us China haters.  It is just that the facts are the facts.

I will come back with more later.

  6. 1. Judges always favor the host country's athletes when scoring. It seems like an "unwritten" rule of the olympic committee. If you look back in history, the host country always gets more medals than they do when they are not hosting. This tendency is probably motivated by money (like everything else). Bribes are probably involved as well as a desire to encourage the hometown crowd to come to the events and pay more money.

    2. The Chinese government isn't above cheating for their athletes. Athletes cheat all the time (including American ones). But in this case, the government is actually helping their athletes cheat in order to present a positive image of China to the world. Unfortunately, they aren't very good at it, so it's backfiring.

    3. They have homefield advantage. The athletes don't have to suffer from the additional stress of being in a unfamiliar country with a hostile crowd. This has a huge effect on events where confidence and strong nerves plays a big part like in gymnastics.

    4. Their population is about 3 to 4 times larger than the U.S. It shouldn't be very surprising if they get 3 to 4 times the number of medals. But they never do. They're actually not doing that way if you look at it that way.

  7. china are cheaters >:{ even though im Asian but im a American too :]

and they use 13 yr old girls to win the gymnastic

  8. I think US took all gold medals when it was held in Atlanta

  9. You guys just hate china and don't want to accept the fact that the Americans just lost their world domination yet in another field, in this case sports. Just like another user pointed out, you American athletes  like Marion Jones and a c**p load of others who won gold illegally are caught doping with hardcore evidences while you flame the Chinese their hard working gold medals with slightest rumors without evidence to back them.

Btw, don't flame the bejinig bad air, if you paid the slightest attention to this Olympics you will know most of the Chinese medals are in-door sports. So stop your waning, crying, and start hoping that your thank god dope free athletes can actually win a couple medals on track and field or you won't have a chance to catch up to China at all.

Now to answer the real questions on how China can be so dominate this time.

    1. China doesn't have NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, which sucks the American sports talent dry.

    2. Chinese start training at early ages, with the coaches choosing young capable kids who they think are top Olympic material.

    3. Within this pool of few thousands carefully hand picked Olympic hopefuls, they select the best of the best to compete. Compared to most of the American Olympic programs, the coaches have to deal with whoever they get. No luxury to choose.  It's lucky that genius like Michale Phelps can be there to save the day and some faces for American, just imagine how humiliated the U.S will be without his 8 gold which are like half of the total gold.

***I laugh at the American media at how pathetically and desperately they try to hang on to that image of #1 in medals when 99% of the world counts # of gold medals first instead of totals # of medals. Even the Brits ranked China first on medal count. To the whole world, the gold medal is the only acceptable true winner, but anything silver or bronze will settles it for you Americans.

  10. Number 1, China cheats a bit. Number 2, the gymnastics teams won and therefore for winning they got a gold for each member, not just one. That counts for alot.

  11. Because they have been training very hard?

  12. Home town advantage and they have a competitor in every sport.

  13. Because China CHEATTSZZ??!!!!111oneoneone

LIK OMFG look at them pay off the judges in archery!  That 9 she shot at the end is clearly a 7!!!!

Seriously, I don't understand why everyone keeps accusing them of cheating with no grounds to back themselves up.  Bring me an article, preferably neutral (non-American and non-Chinese) about how China has cheated judges to win medals.  You won't find it because Guo Jing Jing is amazing at diving and Yang Wei owns gymnastics.

I tallied up the 2004 Athens gold medals and 2008 Beijing gold medals, and the biggest difference is that China won 3 more medals in weightlifting and 4 more in gymnastics.  Whether or not they "cheated" with the women's team, the men's team swept 4 for 4 without any arguments, so hard work in those two areas have really paid off.

  14. They won a lot. But America has more, they trained for them, they are cheating!!!!!!!! Using 13 year olds is just wrong!

  15. The Chinese train very hard

  16. for your information they DONNOT use 13 year old girls!! Not everyone has to be as huge as the american gymnasts!

and plus the chinese DONNOT cheat.( im not chinese btw) The americans say that because they are frking jealous that they did not win. O and plus the americans cheat by using medication to boost there energy levels and its ACTUALLY in the news and not a RUMOUR..

  17. They Have a billion people they are bound to have some good athletes. Plus being in China doesn't hurt

  18. Don't say China cheats, what about they say USA cheats more?,from today the chance to get gold medals more likely is USA. because from today Chinese run out of chance to get gold medals in track and field and in other sports. I think USA still number one in both gold medals count or total count, so don't worry mate!!!

  19. Ditto the home advantage thing. Also note that China's population is 1billion 300million something (1billion more than in the US) so they're bound to be able to find some good athletes.

  20. 1. They are the host country

    2. They use underage athletes

    3. The judges are biased, & give the best score to the Chinese

    4. The Chinese are obviously willing to do anything to avoid embarrassment as the host country, & have proved that many times (ex-lip sync, underage athletes, hiding the real city behind pretty murals)

((Even worse, is they are getting away with it, b/c the IOC won't bother!!!))

    5. The have no ethics

    6. They train their athletes hard everyday, while they away from families.

    7. They cheat, lie, hide facts, and simply aren't winning fairly

*Don't worry, next Olymics they will rank much lower again, like they always have.

  21. athlete farms get the best out of their country... plus its home field advantage. they get billions of supporters and dont have to adjust to different climates, used to their pollution, and used to their timezone.

  22. training, investing in training, all over a period since they found out they were to host and probably prior to that as well, given that they pushed so hard for the 2000 games... add to that home town support, all the same sort of stuff that sees most host nations perform better than usual

  23. They either trained more, got better athletes, or got lucky. Also, they're in their home country.
