China announces badminton squad for next month’s Singapore Open Super Series 2011 – Badminton News
The Badminton Association of China has announced the squad for next month’s Singapore Open Super Series 2011, starting from June 14, at Singapore.
The tournament offers lucrative prize money of US$ 246,600.
The tournament is very important as it will be the first Super Series events which will award ranking points for the 2012 Olympic Games. This is the major reason that all top shuttlers from all around the world will participate in Singapore Open to earn
ranking points for 2012 London Olympics.
Among the Men’s Singles shuttlers from China, the three times world champion and ruling Olympic Champion, Lin Dan will be participating in this event along with current world champion, Chen Jin and the winner of 2009 Singapore Open, Bao Chunlai.
In the category of Women’s Singles, the current World Number one, Wang Shixian of China will lead the squad in Singapore Open. There will also be some upcoming female shuttlers from China to get experience in this Super Series event.
Shixian is quite excited as she will visit Singapore for the first time. She said that she has heard from other team-mates that Singapore is a very beautiful and vibrant city. She expressed that she cannot wait to see the city.
The Singapore Open Super Series is one of the 12 OSIM BWF Super Series events. According to the rule of BWF, it is mandatory for all players in the top-10 to participate in the Super Series events to maintain the highest quality of the game.
That is why top shuttlers in all categories will be there to compete in the championship to get ranking points for achieving a better placing in the Olympic Games. In the category of Men’s Singles, it will be Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who will be the favourite
for the title. Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade and Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat will also be there to compete for the title.
In Women’s Singles category, Wang Shixian will be facing many other top shuttlers including team-mates and Saina Nehwal of India.
However, the Chinese team will be looking to make a clean sweep as all Chinese shuttlers are capable of beating any player in the entire circuit as they are complete professionals.
