China awards Australian first place at Midea China Classic 2010
The Midea China Classic finished on the 17th of October at the Royal Orchid International Golf Club. Kim Felton stood at the top of the leader board with Scot Simon Yates ending as the runner up.
Felton carded a score of 65 with a 6 under at the closing round of the event.
The thirty-five year old Felton started the last round of the tournament rather slow but soon caught up. The Australian started the day with a 4 shot deficiency but soon caught up with the pace and slowly crept up on the leader board
with birdies.
Felton’s wake-up call came at the 5th hole after which the thirty-five year old carded a total of 7 birdies by playing 12 holes of the event. The spotless 12-hole play by the Australian only included one bogey from the 10th
hole.
Felton is the first Australian to win the One Asia Tour in its history. The thirty-five year old said that he was blown apart from the win. According to Felton, he hadn’t used most of his muscles and nerves for a very long time and
that’s what has left him numb and shattered.
Felton said that his belief is back and is now exhilarated by the fact that he can win again. The Australian said that the past years have been rather tough on him and was mostly spent practicing and training. The thirty-five year
old is relieved by the fact that he has been able to turn around the previously prevailing conditions.
Scot Simon Yates played a strong game and ended it with a 67. Yates played a sturdy bogey-free round against Felton but it wasn’t enough to snatch victory from the Australian’s hand and thus ended the game as a runner-up.
According to Yates, he felt numb with the putter. He said that he had 32 putts and was still 4 under. Yates had his focus on hitting as much regulation as he collected 18 greens in regulation.
Regarding the winner, Yates said that Kim played a remarkable game and performed some great putts. He said that he had a fun time playing against a player like him and marveled at Kim’s error free play.
The third place of the event was awarded to another Australian, Andre Stolz. Stolz finished at a tie with Mitchell Brown. Stols carded a score of 69 while his competitor Brown ended his game with a 71.
