China beats Iran 3–0 in Pool E match: 16th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship
The 16th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship saw a Pool E match between pool toppers China and Iran at Taipei, China. With the first round of the tournament over, the teams find themselves playing in the classification round of the championship.
By the time that the day was done, China had made a clean sweep over their Iranian counterparts.
Not only did China manage to win the match by bagging three straight sets, they did so by completely smothering their Asian rivals. Iran could only manage to stay with China in the first set as it lost the next two as quickly as they begun. The final set
scores showed the following points in favour of the Chinese: 25-17, 25-8 and 25-9.
Two Chinese players were able to top both teams in points. These were Fan Linlin and Yang Jie, each of whom was able to score 14 points each. On the Iranian side, M. Borhani was able to register 10 points for her team.
The first set of the game saw the Chinese take the lead early on at 8-4. Mainly due to a height advantage the Chinese were able to stretch their lead until the second technical time out at 16-9. When the two teams came back onto the courts after the break,
China did not relent and pushed on towards a first set win at 25-17.
The momentum generated by winning the first set of the game got the Chinese going on a 6-0 run as soon as they stepped onto the courts. By the time that the first technical time out came, the Chinese were leading at 8-3 and stretched it to 16-6. The Iranians
could not pull themselves together and waited for the Chinese to bag another win at 25-8.
The third set of the match followed the same pattern as the previous one with the Chinese moving on towards a 25-9 win in a blitzkrieg fashion.
The Chinese were able to dominate the Iranians in all aspects of the game. China was able to play better on the attack as they posted a total of 40 spikes while the Iranians could only muster 25. The defence of the Chinese was also doing a better job that
is shown by the fact that China put up 11 blocks while the Iranians could only manage one. Additionally, China was able to score a total of seven points in service aces while Iran could not pull off one ace.
On the other hand, the Chinese were able to restrict themselves in terms of errors by making eight while the Iranians committed 17 errors in all.
