China captures gold medal in Women’s Sabre contest of 2011 Universiade Games, Shenzhen
The last day of the 2011 Universiade Games featured two gold medals for the Chinese squad. They won two gold medals in the Men’s Foil Team and Women’s Sabre Team contests on the last day of Universiade Championships on August 18.
Chinese Women’s squad, consist of Xiaodong Chen, Min Xia, Fie Li and Tingting Yuan, started their direct elimination bout with the table of 8 as they were given an automatic bye in the table of 16. The Italian started with the table of 16 where they defeated
Russia with the score-line of 45-40. Italians were placed seventh in the competition as they could not win their bout against China in the quarter-final round.
China defeated Romania in the semi-final bout while they defeated Ukraine to capture the second gold medal of the day. Chinese squad ranked first in the both Men’s Foil and Women’s Sabre team events. Ukraine was honoured with the silver medal and was ranked
second in the Sabre contest. The bronze medal fight was taken by the Korean squad over Romania and they got third position in the competition. Romania, France, Poland, Italy and United State captured fourth to eighth places respectively.
Here are the results for the last day’s Women’s Sabre Team events.
Quarterfinal bouts:
Romania defeated France with the score of 45-35
China overcame Italy and gained maximum 45 touches with the loss of only 29 touches
Ukraine defeated United States with the 45-32 score-line
Korean squad defeated Poland and got 45-30 touches
Semi-final bout:
China was set to face Romania and they overcame Romania with 45-39 touches
Ukraine captured his bout against Korea with 45-37 points
Final:
China captured the event after defeating Ukraine with the 45-38 score-line
Bronze medal bout:
Korea and Romania fought their bout for the bronze medal and Korea successfully captured the gold medal after 45-29 touches.
5th and 6th place bout:
France and Italy defeated United States and Russia and then fought for fifth place with each other. France overcame Italy and was placed fifth in the competition.
