With their continued reign in the water polo event, China has become the third favourite team of competition with 6 points and a goal difference of nine.
Both competitors seemed tough in the first quarter, but New Zealanders proved their dominance by scoring 3 goals against China’s 2. From the Chinese corner, both goals were scored by Zhongxing Liang whereas successful efforts were made from Matt Small, Eamon
Lui and Jamie Cameron of the opponent team.
Subsequently, the second quarter was surprising for the arena, where Chinese athletes turned the table upside down by scoring four goals while New Zealand was only able to score a single goal. This turned the score to 6-4, giving lead of two goals to China.
Similar efforts were made from the Chinese side in third quarter, where they seemed to be on a verge of destructing their opponent. Once again, Chinese athletes went on a rampage and scored four goals to accumulate their total to a score of 10, with one
quarter remaining. On the other hand, Kiwis were able to notch up two goals against china, which led their score to 6 goals.
With everything dependant on the fourth quarter, victory of the Chinese team was inevitable but New Zealand’s water polo squad still had a possible chance to win.
Nevertheless, Chinese players made no mistake in the final quarter and devastated hopes of their rival team by accomplishing five goals. On the contrary, Kiwis failed to show any improvement in final round and lost the match after scoring two more goals.
The arena went wild with the commendable efforts of Chinese squad that defeated New Zealand with a 15-8 score. Furthermore, with their tremendous win in the second match, Chinese are now scheduled to compete with Japan and the spectators are eager to see
what comes out in their third contest.
