China crushes Malaysia by 3-1 to win team-event title at the Asian Junior Badminton Championship
Chinese shuttlers have proved their supremacy in the game as they grabbed the team-event title after beating the Malaysians by a 3-1 margin, in the team-event final of the Asian Junior Badminton Championship 2011, in India, on Tuesday, July 5.
The Malaysian squad was satisfied with their performance in the final battle, where they put up a good show against the Chinese players. Chooi Weng Sheng, team manager of Malaysia, said, “Our shuttlers played well and took the fight to China but luck was
not on our side,”
He further added, “We were hoping to take the first point through the mixed doubles but it did not go according to plan.”
In the opening contest of the final match, Malaysia’s Chow Mei Kuan and Teo Ee Yi played against China’s Ou Dongni and Pei Tianyi. In this Mixed Doubles fight, the Chinese girls proved their worth by taming the Malaysians in straight- games without facing
any considerable trouble.
It was a straight-set fight, which took only 28 minutes to stamp the supremacy of the Chinese shuttlers in the court. Dongni and Tianyi finished the match by winning it with a 21-18 and 21-13 margin.
The following contest was the Boy’s Singles battle, where Malaysia’s Zulfadli Zulkifli was up against China’s Huang Yuxiang. The Malaysian was expected to beat the Chinese and tie the match by 1-1, however, Yuxiang had other things in mind.
The Chinese took only two games to thrash Zulfadli, who was not playing at his best. Yuxiang spared no chance for the Malaysian to come back in the match and won it with a 21-16 and 21-12 margin.
However, in the next contest, Malaysia’s Chow Ee Yi and Nelson Heg won a thrilling fight against China’s Pei Tianyi and Chen Zhuofu. It was a wonderful match between the duos, in which the Malaysians managed to win in three games with a margin of 13-21,
21-12 and 30-29.
In the fourth fight, Malaysia’s Sonia Cheah lost to China’s Sun Yu in three sets of entertaining badminton. The Chinese clinched the match with a margin of 18-21, 21-17 and 21-14. With this win, China clinched the team-event title with a margin of 3-1.
