China crushes Thailand in a close match at the Asian Games Women’s Volleyball Championship
It was the morning of a big day for two arch rivals of women’s volleyball world. The final match of the first preliminary round of Women’s Volleyball Championship saw China and Thailand in the court. The city of Guangzhou in China hosted the wonderful event.
China had an amazing run in the championship as the team captured success in previous matches. They maintained their good reputation in front of local devotees and managed to dismiss Thailand in four-set match. China posted 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 24-26, and 25-19)
victory over Thailand and extended its winning streak to 4-0. China has now qualified for the top-eight team round.

by Thailand in the final match of the first round on Monday. Thailand put up a great fight but couldn’t avoid the chances of defeat anyway.
China opened the match with strong serves from Yunwen MA and scored early points of the game. The offensive combination of Jie Yang and Yunwen carved out useful lead of the three points for China. Thailand relied on Onuma Sittirak and Malika Kanthong who
defended their team’s position very well. Both sides actively contributed points on the scoreboard and game progressed with a close gap of points. However, China remained ahead in the game with better score of 16-13. China’s queens continued with success and
took the score to 24-20. Thailand hit back and earned three consecutive points. On the other hand, China was all set to achieve the match point and closed the first set at 25-23.
After dropping the first set, Thailand was drafted under pressure. It created a perfect opportunity for China to smash electrifying serves and prolific spikes. The long jump-serves of Wang flabbergasted Thai ladies. The ball was deflected from their hands
time and again. Too many unforced reception errors caused a lot of trouble for Thailand. China’s team attained the right tone and cruised past to finish line in second set. Thailand suffered the loss of another set at 21-25.
Third set was a do-or-die situation for Thailand. They controlled their ball-handling and resisted to China’s strike. The good defence strategy and sensible play enabled Thailand to come out of blues. China tried to dominate the game but Thailand stood in
their way. Third set was a complete ball of fury as both sides attacked each other with full power of their forearms. Thailand managed to steal points from China and score shifted up with a narrow gap. The game entered the crucial phase and score tied at 24-24.
Thailand kept the same momentum and earned two points in row. Third set slipped from the hands of China, while Thailand was delighted with great come-back.
The victory put Thailand’s team in good rhythm and they opened the fourth set with confident shots. Thailand picked up a lead of 10-7 but China returned in the game and broke their tempo. Chinese hitters added quick points and gained the control of operations.
Thailand trailed behind with 2 points at 14-16. The home-team attacked with more ferocity and took the game away from Thailand. China captured the important fourth set and declared victory over Thailand (25-19).
China and Thailand, both teams have qualified for the quarter-finals. China will play against Chinese Taipei, while Thailand has to cope with the power of Korean team on Wednesday, 24th November, 2010.
