China defeats Kenya by 3-0 in FIVB Women’s World Cup - Volleyball news
The sixth ranked Chinese women’s volleyball team had a match with the world number 15th ranked Kenyan squad on November 17. The competition was part of the FIVB Women’s World Cup that is currently being played in Japan. The city of Tokyo played host to the
match between China and Kenya, with the venue of the competition being the Yoyogi Stadium. It did not take long for the three time champions China to assert themselves as they were able to make a clean sweep over their opponents.
Not only did China manage to make a clean sweep over Kenyans they were able to completely smother them. The first set of the match seemed to be child’s play for the Chinese as they were able to bag the opening set in a blitzkrieg attack. The loss of the
first set triggered the Kenyans into action but their effort was still not enough to significantly challenge the Chinese who secured themselves another set. With two sets down, the Kenyans also kept trailing far behind in the third one as the China sealed
the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-7, 25-15 and 25-10.
The coach of the Chinese team, Yu Juemin, expressed himself in the following manner after his team had grabbed itself a win: “Every player had good focus and concentration and I think we performed well. We hope we can carry this into our match with Germany
tomorrow... Our main purpose is to win a ticket to the Olympic Games. The World Cup is one of our biggest chances to achieve this, so we’re putting forth our best effort for this tournament and these matches.”
On the hand, Kenyan coach Paul Bitok, explained his sentiments in the following words: “Today playing China, I think they were very strong, and were prepared not to lose any matches.”
The player that was able to tally the most points from among both the sides was the Chinese Yang Junjing with a total of 10 points. Junjing was helped by her teammate and captain Wei Qiuyue who made her presence felt by pulling off three well timed service
aces. The player that proved to be the most active for the Kenyans was Moim Mercy who kept the game going by registering 10 points in all and Everlyne Makuto who was able to tally nine points respectively.
The Kenyans have now lost all of the last four matches in which they have come up with the Chinese. However, this time around they were playing with a disadvantage as they did not have Lydia maiyo due to the death of her father. Therefore, the Chinese were
able to end the match in 53 minutes.
