China defeats Thailand in a Pool A match of FIVB Women’s World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
The Chinese city of Macau played host to the Pool A matches of the FIVB Women’s World Grand Prix on June 10, 2012.
One of the pool play matches took place between the home team and the Thailand squad. The contest took four sets to come to a close at the end of which the Chinese held the victory.
The opening set saw the home team struggle a bit that cost them the frame but the Chinese redeemed themselves by winning the next three sets in a row, putting up the following final set scores at the score board: 18-25, 25,20, 25-18 and 25-19.
The coach of the home team, Yu Juemin, expressed his delight at the win by making the following comments, “Thailand is a very strong team with their own characteristics, as we learnt in our defeat by them last year in Macau. Their fantastic service and blocking
gave us a lot of problems today, and we needed to make adjustments in order to combat it.”
On the other hand, the Thai coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, made the following statements, “I would like to thank the FIVB and the Local Organising Committee for the great organisation and hospitality. I would also like to thank the media for the coverage
of the games, and the fans for the support.”
The Thai were able to get the lead at 5-1 in the first set of the match but the Chinese eventually made the frame reach a tie at 14-14. However, the home team could not maintain the challenge and gave in to the pressure from Thailand, which won the frame
at 25-18.
The home team started the second frame rejuvenated and had the advantage to themselves at 18-9. After that point, it was an easy job for the Chinese to get the second frame at 25-20. The third as well as the fourth frame saw a superior performance from the
Chinese while the Thai squad kept on trailing all the way behind as China bagged the two frames at 25-18 and 25-19 respectively.
The recent match has enabled the Chinese squad to end Week one of the tournament with a clean record showing no loss so far. Whereas Thailand has been able to grab two wins.
