China deposes Korea to wear crown in Thomas Cup Finals 2012 – Badminton News
China secured its right to be on top of the victory stand in Thomas Cup Finals as they overpowered Korea in title match on May 27, 2012.
They bagged their first title on home soil by registering a commendable 3-0 victory. This win doubled the celebration of Uber Cup Finals success.
Chinese campaigners dominated in most part of battle and stole the limelight in first three segments.
On the other hand, the losing side could not endure the pressure of the big day. They were not only battling a star-studded squad but also had with a huge local crowd who was there to support the natives.
The badminton king Lin Dan led the attack by facing seasoned Korean shuttler Lee Hyun Il in opening encounter of the day.
Though, the World Number two player stole the show in just two segments but still he had to stay in court for 54 exhausting minutes.
In first set of match, Lin Dan established an unassailable lead straight away in the beginning and maintained an upper hand until game point situation.
He bagged first set with a notable margin of 21-14 and then capitalised this in following game by entering a winning total of 21-17 in score log.
This 1-0 lead provided right momentum to Men’s Doubles team Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng as they raised this lead to 2-0 by stamping scratch pair of Lee Yong Dae-Kim Sa Rang.
The Chinese couple set the foundation by clinching first game. They were bit sluggish in start but later part of the game saw them picking up the pace and leaving their rivals far behind with concluding margin of 21-16.
However, it was not an easy sailing in second segment of the show as Korean pair showed great resilience and both teams snapped each other’s heels all the way to game point.
This cliff-hanging tussle ended when Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng secured final two points in decisive total of 25-23.
The last chapter of this saga was even more captivating as World Number three Chen Long completely outclassed his opponent Shon Wan Ho in two games.
He ensured China’s first Thomas Cup title on home ground by registering 21-9 and 21-13 scores on the board.
