China destined to make a clean sweep on the medal tables of the 2011 World Table Tennis Championship
Chinese are headed to a clean sweep on the medal table of 2011 GAC GROUP World Table Tennis Championships. The Ahoy Sports Arena was the centre of table tennis activities in the last one week. The arena was packed with over 8,000 spectators to witness the
finals of the mega event at Rotterdam, Netherlands.
There were 36 table tennis tables set for the championship. It was an all China affair on the final day of the championship. Many thought it is not a good sign that “China wins everything”.
The Chinese made a clean sweep on the medal tables not only with the titles, but they have also won the silver in almost all five categories. The only two matches, left are the Men's Singles and Women's Doubles. The match for the most prestigious category
Men's Singles will be played today at the Ahoy arena.
The final will be played amongst the top seeded player from China, Wang Hao and his compatriot Zhang Jike.
The first medal the Chinese won was the title of mixed doubles played on the evening of May 13. The Chinese proved from the first final of the event that they are the best in the whole world in table tennis. Both the finalist duos were from China, Shuai
Hao and Mu Zi competed against their compatriot Zhang Chao and Cao Zhen, respectively.
Zhang Chao and Cao Zhen dominated over their compatriots and won the finals with a match score of 7-11, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9 and 8-11.
The second title for the Chinese squad was of the Men’s Doubles. Xu Xin and Ma Lin pair won over their compatriot duo of Chen Qi and Ma Lin. The pair won the match of five games scoring 11-3, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4 and 11-7.
Xu Xin said, “We had a very clear aim when we came here, we had been the runners up in Yokohama in 2009, here we wanted to be the champions, now we are more mature, we are able to cope better with pressure situations.”
The third title the Chinese won was the Women's Singles. Ding Ning won against her compatriot, the top seeded player on the Women's Singles of the championship, Li Xiaoxia.
The match extended to six games with a score-line of 12-10, 13-11, 11-9, 8-11, 8-11 and 11-7.
The Chinese players have emerged as the world’s best table tennis players with two more finals to be played at the Netherlands. Chinese squad will be the all round winners of the 2011 GAC GROUP World Table Tennis Championships
