China dominates quarter-final day in the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series
China has secured 11 spots in the semi-finals of all categories as they plainly dominated the quarter-final day in the 2011 China Open Premier Super Series, on Friday, November 25, in Shanghai, China. Except the category of Men’s Doubles, Chinese shuttlers
have secured semi-final berths by playing flawless badminton against all of their opponents at the last-8 stage.
Chinese shuttlers have been dominated the arena for the last more than one decade and this winning streak has not been disturbed so far by any other nation in the world of badminton. In the quarter-final stage, Chinese players have reached at the top-4 stage
in the categories Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. It indicates that Chinese shuttlers are looking forward to win titles in all these categories.
In the Men’s Singles category, two Chinese players including, Chen Long and Lin Dan, have secured their berths in the semi-final. Long will play against Indonesia’s Simon Santoso who made an upset in the quarter-final by beating the World Number Four, Peter
Hoeg Gade of Denmark. On the other hand, Lin will take on the World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who tamed Japan’s Sho Sasaki in the quarter-final contest.
In the category of Women’s Doubles, China has three pairs leaving just one spot to Japan’s Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa, who are the third seeds in the tournament. The Japanese defeated India’s Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa in the last-8 stage. In the
semi-final, they will take on the top seeds and World Number One pair of Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang (F), who defeated the team-mates, Shu Cheng and Pan Pan in the quarter-final.
The second semi-final the Women’s Doubles category will be an all China affair as both Chinese pairs will compete against each other to find a place in the final. China’s un-seeded shuttler, Tang Jinhua and Xia Huan will be up against their compatriots and
third seeds, Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei in today’s semi-final.
Chinese shuttlers have occupied all four spots in the Women’s Singles semi-finals as all Chinese females have won their quarter-final contests. The World Number one Wang Yihan, who is the second seed in the championships, won her quarter-final fight against
Bulgaria’s Petya Nedelcheva in a thrilling rubber set fight. The third seed and World Number Three, Wang Xin tamed her team-mate Xue Yao in her match at the last-8 stage.
In the third quarter-final of Women’s Singles, China’s Xin (F) Liu proved her worth against Korea’s Bae Youn Joo and won the battle in three games by playing wonderful badminton. In the last match of top-8 stage in the Women’s Singles category was between
China’s Xuerui Li and Inthanon Ratchanok of Thailand. The Chinese delivered wonderful performance and won the battle in hard fought three-set games. In the Women’s Singles semi-final matches of China Open, Xin will take on Xuerui, whereas Xin (F) Liu will
be up against Yihan.
In the category of Mixed Doubles, two Chinese couples have reached in the semi-final and will face each other in the semi-final contest and will have one couple in the title match of the event. The top seeds and World Number One pair of Zhang Nan and Zhao
Yunlei will take on their lower ranked compatriots, Jiaming Tao and Xia Huan.
Chinese shuttlers are expected to win at least three titles, and winning the titles in all these four categories will also not be out of question.
