China expects NBA star Yao Ming will be participating in this year’s Asian Basketball Championships
China expects the NBA star, Yao Ming, will be participating in this year’s Asian Basketball Championships which is scheduled in September. This modest statement was given by the China’s National Basketball team’s captain, Liu Wei. He too was not sure about
his team-mate whether he will able to make a comeback or stay put resting his ankle.
Wei, somehow stated about the recent desperation by Yao’s efforts regarding his injury. Wei, while speaking to a local newspaper regarding Yao’s comeback into international basketball, said,
“Nothing is certain right now; He will stay in Shanghai for a while and then go back to the States for an injury check. Nobody knows if he will be able to play until the results come out.”
Wei has also played with Yao Ming in China with Shanghai Sharks and shares a great deal of close relationship with Yao. The team China is now more desperate towards Yao’s successful comeback in the national side as he is out from the game since November
2010.
Yao broke his left ankle against the Washington Wizards playing with Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The tall NBA sun-shine Yao has impressed many in the league with his brilliant ball play in a short span of time. He came into the Houston Rockets when the Rockets drafted him first overall in 2002. He came to the United States of America (USA) with a huge
dream to be successful as basketball player to represent not only his motherland, the Republic of China, but as a future NBA idol as well.
NBA is not just a very big stage for any international player to prosper in his game, but also a huge advantage for their financial obligations as the NBA players are one of the most highly paid celebrities in America.
Yao’s coming into USA and playing in NBA for the Houston Rockets was much appreciated all across China and in a very short span of time he was also famous all across America for his extraordinary height and rapid athleticism.
Yao’s dream to become an icon for the Chinese basketball at international level was soon shattered by consistent injuries that have thumped him hard. Yao was not able to finish his 2005-06 season with the Houston Rockets as he suffered from a toe infection
in middle of that season and caused him next two years for the same reason.
The 2008-2009 NBA season was also proved fatal for him as he endured a hairline fracture in his foot. Now, Yao’s ultimate broken left ankle has also barred him from the court since November.
Yao has played total 486 games with Houston Rockets and his career average of 19.0 points per game remained a plus point for him.
The Asian Championships are starting from September 15-25, and if the team China is able to win a gold medal in these championships they certainly will fly to United Kingdom to participate in the 2012 London Olympics.
