China fails to overcome Russian double trouble – German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
The Chinese men failed to overcome Russian double trouble in the opening match of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on February 29, 2012.
The Russian men’s doubles team Vladimir Ivanov- Ivan Sozonov overpowered their Chinese rivals Biao Chai- Zhendong Guo with 17-21, 21-19 and 25-23 final score on the board.
The Russians alarmed the other top seeded men’s doubles teams of the event by performing beyond expectations. They registered their presence by nailing the World Number five Chinese duo in an epic tussle which prolonged to one hour.
The Chinese duo Biao Chai- Zhendong Guo started the match by showing their class and snatched the first match point from their Russian opponents Vladimir Ivanov- Ivan Sozonov with final score of 21-17 on the board.
The Chinese, despite of having an upper hand, had to earn their 1-0 lead as the Russians put a great resistance and set the mood of the game.
The second set levelled the balance of the match as the Russian duo Vladimir Ivanov- Ivan Sozonov thrashed their Chinese rivals with 1-1 match score.
The Chinese entered in court with a 1-0 lead but the Russians proved themselves mentally tougher than the expectations.
They hold their nerves throughout the set and pushed the Chinese in all areas of the court, resulted in a decisive margin of 21-19 in their favour.
But the real challenge for the both teams was the third and final set of the match as it turned into an epic tussle. The nail-biting fight kept the spectators involved until the last shot was played.
There were four times when a team reached at game point and the other prevented it from stealing the show. Finally, the Russian pair Vladimir Ivanov- Ivan Sozonov wrapped the show with concluding score of 25-23 on the board.
The both teams kept the scorers busy for almost an hour and it turned into a tough fitness test and the Russians passed it with par excellence performance.
The Russian couple has paved its path to the second round of the mixed doubles event in German Open and they are scheduled to meet the Japanese duo Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa.
