China has won 45 gold medals so far, and the USA 26, why doesn't Yahoo show this on it's home page?

If you open www.yahoo.com, you will see the medal count. It shows the USA as #1 since it has 82 medals TOTAL, and it shows China as #2 since it has 72 medals won.

BUT why don't they show the GOLD medal count. China is WAY WAY ahead of the USA.

You can see this if you clikc for details, but why isn't this shown on the main site?

  1. The US generally focuses on total medals.

  2. lol mohommad you got no answers. U LOsER

  3. if you click on the gold medal it will show the leader of gold medals

    http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing...

  4. because they choose to display total medal count

  5. In America, they judge the lead by total medals because they excel there.  However, China judges the lead by gold medals, because they do well there.  It's a matter of the country.  They base the lead on what they do well in.

  6. So that people like you would get curious and start hitting the website for details!

On a serious note, just image a country A with 30 Silver medals ranked below a country B with only 1 Gold medal and nothing else! This would be unjust and false interpretation of performance. At the end of the day, when the Olympic ends, the country that holds the most Gold medals would be standing out and applauded.

If I were to suggest a change, I would count 2 Silver equivalent to 1 Gold and 1 point and 3 Bronze to 1 Gold and 1 point. Anyway, having a total-based ranking would give a value to Silver and Bronze too.

  7. Because this is the way Yahoo has set it up, always.  Maybe you should start your own site and put China first.

  8. because the US media has ALWAYS ranked countries by total medals won, the way it should be. it's called a medal count, not a gold medal count.

  9. if you click on it then youll see the full metal counts.

when china had more metals early on it was the same thing.

  10. It's a conspiracy.

  11. Because the go by the total count

That how it been done my whole life

Why is this an issue this year?

    Why not in year past?

They always show the total count

    PS

    This always happen too

If two country has the same total of medals, the one with the most gold is first

If the US and China were tied, China would be first

  12. Of course, it's all down to how it is interpreted but then i guess it's no different to what any other country around the world would do. They'll display the facts and figures in a manner that makes them look the best. Go figure. You wouldn't want the next superpower (sporting and everything else thrown in) to look like they might be getting the upper hand now, would you?

It's up to us to realise we're being manipulated by the media, sadly plenty of people just accept what they read and hear without challenging anything. More fool them.

  13. They assume most ppl who go on that page are from America, so they want the US to be portrayed at first.

Yes, China does own more gold, but its solely opinion who have done better in the Olympics so far.

EDIT: What is this?  The Thumbs down clinic.  Maybe instead of thumbing down, you guys instead just reply.  Stop hiding behind your computers. Losers.  say what you have to say.  Thumbs up if you agree.

  14. Officially in multi-discipline games like the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, medal tables are listed according to the number of golds collected by each country. Silver medals are only taken into account when there are two or more countries having the same number of golds.

Unfortunately for this Olympic, Yahoo chooses to list them according to total number of medals instead of golds because Yahoo does not want to list China at top. If China wins more medals to overtake the US in total medals count too, that's the time, Yahoo has no choice but to list China at the top. Sorry to say but so far the Americans are acting like sore losers.

  15. The USA uses a different method to score the medals. The rest of the world does it by Gold medals rather than total. I personally think this is the more logical way to keep score as doing it by total is like saying Gold Medal=Bronze medal. The other method has its problems such as if one country has 0 golds & 20 silver they would still be ranked lower than a country with just 1 Gold medal - but the chances of that happening are slim.

  16. because the us doesn't want the world to see that they have won that many gold medals they get so many other medals because they take so many athletes to compete

  17. We still have more medals then China.

I'm glad too, because the Chineese cheat!!
