China loses to Brazil by 2-3 in FIVB Men's World Cup match - Volleyball
The Brazilian men’s national volleyball team played against the Chinese in the second round of the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup match on November 25th. The Japanese city of Kumamoto played host as the South American squeaked past the chinese by 3-2.
The Brazilians were playing the game with a lot of their key players on the bench which made it easier for the Chinese to compete with their opponents and take the match to five long sets. However, the Brazilians did not let the match slip out of their hands.
The first set of the match saw both the teams remain neck to neck with each other but as the frame reached its final stages, the Chinese earned themselves an opening set win. The loss of the first set did not sit well with the Brazilians and they were able
to come out strong in the second set and smother their opponents.
The momentum generated by winning the previous set got the Brazilians to take the third set comfortably as well. The Chinese came to life again in the fourth set and took the match to a decisive fifth frame but the Brazilians were able to seal the deal on
the match at the following final set scores: 23-25, 25-10, 25-18, 19-25 and 15-8.
The coach of the Brazilian team, Bernardo Rezende, shared his feelings in the following manner after the match had come to its end: “I’m sorry we lost a point; it was very important but we needed to rest players. We have a tough next round against Argentina,
Cuba and Serbia. We didn’t have our rhythm in the first set, but won in the second and third. In the fourth set our emotions came back [and we lost that set].”
On the other hand, the Chinese coach Zhou Jianan, gave the following statements at the press conference after the match had ended, in order to express himself: “Up until now in this tournament our team has lost all four games, and today we lost too. But
we got one point and are satisfied with that.”
The player that was able to score the most points for the Brazilian side was Murilo Endres who made his presence felt by putting up a total of 19 points. Endres was supported by his team-mate João Paulo Bravo Pereira, who kept the pressure on the Chinese
by tallying a total of 14 points. The lead scorer on the Chinese squad was also the top scorer of the match as Chen Ping put up 22 points to keep the competition alive from his side. Ping was helped by Zhong Weijun who scored 16 points in all.
The Brazilian team was better than the Chinese both in terms of attack as well as defence. However, their blocking skills played a major role in grabbing a win over the Chinese squad.
