I understand that China does not allow people, including Americans, with facial deformities to adopt? Are there any other adoption programs that enforce this restriction?

And, why?

  1. I can't remmeber if I read this or someone told mea bout it, but with amputees, same as with gross household income, I read an article about how some parents adopt a child mostly to have a carer to look after them when they're unable to look after themselves, which unlike in a normal scenario where the parents dont need looking after until they're real old and the child id in an emotionally and financially stable position to do so, these children might still be very young and possibly havent even had an education that will afford them real opportunities later on.

The facial doformities is safeguarding against adopters may potentially find they have cancer and therefore the children find themselves in the above situation or even without parents and back in the system, possibly  in a foreign country.

  2. Marsha is right. Being deformed in China, or India, Bangladesh or many other developing countries, is a fate of nasty discrimination. It would be very difficult to be successful in life and raise a child properly. Further, sometimes crippled people and babies can be used as bait by groups of beggars.

  3. Yeah I really don’t know understand that new criteria what do they consider a facial deformity?  If you have some scars, perhaps you were burned in a fire. Perhaps you have an extremely huge wart or mole on your face, cleft lip.  Someone's  facial deformity is not going to  affect their ability to be a good parent(s) imo. I question what  does this mean for Chinese children who may have a facial deformity. Honestly how can they ban someone with a facial deformity or whatever, if some of the kids have them , and you know that some do.

Their reason for now banning people who are over weight is that that  person might have a short life. This is true but someone could be killed in an accident as well, or catch some illness and die.  Heck the reason so many children are adopted out of China is because of its one 1 child Policy, 2 in some areas.

You also cant have anything physical wrong with you , that eliminates  amputees, someone in a wheel chair, blind, deaf.

Singles cant adopt  anymore either most likely a way for them to get around g*y adoption. Of course there are some countries that legally allow g**s to Marry.

  4. Yes, China has many restrictions.  However, the poster who said it is because there are more parents wanting to adopt than there are available children is so wrong.  There are hundrends of thousands of abandoned children in China and only a small fraction of them are adopted.  China WANTS to hide how serious the problem is and tries to hide it from the world, that is the reason for the restrictions.  There are many more orphanages than the ones people adopt from, some that have horrible conditions.  A lot of the orphanages don't do the paperwork required to make the children available for adoption.  These children, abandoned girls, then leave when they are 13 or 14 for a life of prostitution, or disabled children, leave for a life much worse than that.

  5. Its all about supply and demand. There are more people wanting to adopt children from china then there are children. My guess would be the chinease government is trying to eliminate as many people as possible from the adoption process. This is simply another excuse.

  6. You didn't know China wasn't a democratic Country - wow

They violate far more civil rights than just being discriminatory about adopters

  7. China is not allowing fat people to adopt either.

  8. I think you would have to look at it from a point of view of someone in China. Over here, the disabled have as many rights and opportunities as the non-disabled. As long as you are capable of doing something, the law protects your right to be able to do it (job wise). You can't discriminate based upon race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or disability. In China though, this is not the case. People who have disabilities, including simple cosmetic deformity or disease (facial deformity is not even really considered a disability here, but it is there) are very often refused the right to work, get an education, they will likely not find a mate, they will be shunned and harrassed by others...they're usually reduced to being beggars on the streets, or people who dig bottles out of trash for the deposit money. I saw SO many handicapped people (blind, missing limbs, facial deformity, unable to walk, etc) on the streets it was shocking. Now, imagine this is your mindset, this way of thinking and being is all you've ever known and then make a decision on whether or not you think a person with a deformity is going to be able to be a good parent to a child and be able to give it the best in life. I think that way too often, we apply american style logic to chinese actions/words.

  9. I have not heard of such a thing and cannot think of a reason why this restriction applies.
