China or Japan? Pick one.?

For a US guy, is China or Japan cooler? As a US citizen, if you have spent time in both, which do you prefer, and why?

Lets say you were given a great job offer, but were required to spend a year in either Japan (Kyoto) or China (Shanghai), which would you choose?

I've known people who've spent time in Japan, and people who've spent time in China, but no one that has been to both, so I appreciate any opinions!

Thanks.

  1. well i live here in japan, so i would most definitely say japan haha.

china has tibetan activist-terrorists at the moment, the pollution is awful (breathing the air in beijing for one day is the same as smoking 17 cigarettes), its crowded, smelly and the food tastes like c**p.

to choose china over japan is the worst decision you could make.

    nihon ni youkoso!

  2. I know people that live in both places. I took Japanese language course in college. Shanghai is best. Ask the people  you know about the pros and cons of living in each country. Balance and options. I personally think Shanghai is more progressive.

  3. most people will say japan because of what they've seen on tv. just remember that japan is the most expensive country to live in in the world

  4. Americans are gonna pick Japan. They have an obession with the place. I prefer China, but people will pick Japan for a few reasons.

    1. American person: Isnt Japan like lightyears ahead of us in technology?

    2. Their false sense of superiority over the Japanese compared to the Chinese. They have a fetish with bringing up the bomb and how Japan was helpless (even though they only surrendered due to the Russians declaring war on them after the 2nd bomb was dropped but not many know that).

    3. China is looked at as a super powerful, authoritarian, communist hard *** here in America and not many Americans like that. In fact people here are scared of them because apparently numbers are power in terms of modern warfare.

    4. Sushi (even though they don't know what actual sushi is)

    5. People here have an anime fetish.

    6. Americans LOVE samurai beyond comprehension.

PS: Im not saying liking Japan over China is bad. I'm just stating reasons why a majority think this way.

  5. Neither.
