China proves its supremacy in Asian circuit – Badminton News
The powerhouse of badminton, China proved its supremacy in Asian circuit as its shuttlers clinched four crowns out of five in Badminton Asia Championships on April 22, 2012.
It was an all-China finals in a way as its shuttlers ensured their presence in four title matches and prevailed in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories.
Women’s Doubles team Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei set the ball rolling when they stamped another Chinese duo Bao Yixin-Zhong Qianxin at the final day of event.
World Number two pair Tian-Zhao wrapped the show in just two games with final figures of 21-14 and 21-15.
Later, Men’s Singles expert Chen Jin doubled the joy with an overwhelming performance against his compatriot Du Pengyu who surrendered after reading 21-12 and 21-18 score on the board.
It was a do or die situation for World Number five Chen Jin as he was roped in Olympic qualification tussle and he was looking to end this race with fourth position in world ranking. Now after earning third consecutive international title he has virtually
secured his spot in London Olympics.
The next Chinese contender was Li Xuerui who stunned World Number one Wang Yihan in the final match of the Women’s Singles event.
Li showed a strong character against her superior rival and her three-set struggle yielded good results in shape of favourable margin 21-16, 16-21 and 21-9.
Last but not the least, Mixed Doubles experts Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei proved their class with a convincing victory over their country-fellows Xu Chen and Ma Jin in final match.
Top Mixed Doubles pair of the world emerged as Asian Champions after putting decisive total of 21-13 and 21-12 in the score log.
This concluded the splendid victory saga and China stood at top of the victory stand with four titles in Asian Badminton Championships.
Meanwhile, only event in which Chinese could not make it into the finals was Men’s Doubles category where the lower ranked Korean pair Kim Ki Jung-Kim Sa Rang snatched the honour from their Japanese rivals Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa.
The Koreans sealed their straight-set victory by registering final figures of 21-12 and 21-16.
