China remains dominant in all categories at the Badminton Asia Championships 2011
Chinese shuttlers grabbed medals in all categories of the game including the men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles, in the Badminton Asia Championships 2011, which took place in Sichuan Provincial Gymnasium, China,
from April 19 to 24.
The Chinese players remained focused on the home event and got maximum results, proving that China has become an undisputed leader in the world of badminton. No other country, except Japan, could even manage to reach the final of any category. It was an
all China affair in the four categories while Japan managed to reach the final of the men’s doubles.
In the men’s singles category, the former world champion and current Olympic champion, Lin Dan, proved his supremacy in the event and has become the Asian Champion. He defeated his compatriot and friend, Bao Chunlai, in straight games in the final match
of the event with an impressive score of 21-19 and 21-13.
In the women’s singles category, it was the world number two and second seed of the event, Wang Yihan, who emerged as the winner of the title. She blocked the winning run of her compatriot and former world champion, Lu Lan, by beating her in straight sets
in the final battle of the championship. The score of the women’s singles final match was 21-15 and 23-21.
Japan was the only foreign country that managed to reach the final of the men’s doubles. Japan’s Noriyasu Hirata – Hirokatsu Hashimoto delivered a terrific performance in the whole event but failed to win the final battle against the former world champions
Fu Haifeng – Cai Yun of China. The Chinese pair showed no mercy to the Japanese and clinched the title by winning the final match in straight sets with a 21-12 and 21-15 margin.
The women’s doubles final was contested between solid Chinese pairs. Yu Yang – Wang Xiaoli played superb badminton against Zhao Yunlei – Tian Qing and won the match without facing any hassle from the opponents. They won the match in straight sets with a
21-13 and 21-10 margin.
In the category of mixed doubles, China’s Zhao Yunlei – Zhang Nan managed to win the title by beating the team-mates, Ma Jin – Xu Chen, in a thrilling three set match with a 15-21, 21-15 and 25-23 score on the board.
