China vs. Thailand 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, and 25-17)
China collided with home-team Thailand in the last 1st-8th classification match on Wednesday, 6th October, 2010. The match was played in a totally sold out arena, the Nakhon Pathom sports hall. The visitors China pulled off
scintillating victory over Thailand in three straight sets. Thai players couldn’t put up with the Chinese onslaught and finished with a humiliating defeat.
Thailand had the competitive edge of home-courts and local supporters. Moreover, they conquered 16th Southeast Asian Championship on home last month. The aroma of victory was still fresh in their minds and they targeted the former three-time winner
China in the current match but the daunting clash proved to be a bad experience for Thailand, as China crushed their dream.
Thailand started the first set by creating weak impression. The tough contender China served with intense power and built lead over Thailand. The home enthusiasts backed up their team and cheered happy slogans. Thailand struggled with their top hitters and
tried to influence China but success was far from them. China had tall Dai Qingyao, who devastated Thailand’s defence line.
Jing zhao and Geng Xin formed good offensive combination and took the game to a different level. They hit excellent shots and contributed quick points in China’s score. Thailand trailed behind in the score chase and ended with only 14 points in first set.
China claimed set-victory with a score of 25-14.
Kitsada Chanchai of Thailand defended his side with good blocks in second set but China attacked with speedy line-shots and secured the second set by sending 25-11. The attitude of the game didn’t change in third set. Thailand worked harder and scored better
in third set. However, technically, Chinese studs were too heavy for them. China remained one step ahead of Thailand and paved its way to the success. They posted 25-17 in third set and declared match victory.
China’s didn’t expect such defective performance by Thailand. The head coach of China, Li Huanning commented about the match. He said, "I think Thailand played below their standard. They came up with poor reception and a lot of unforced mistakes.”
At the same time, Li congratulated his own team for the brilliant victory. He further disclosed his thoughts,
"We just played our form but Thailand did not play theirs. That’s why we beat them easily with a wide margin. Actually, we expected more stiff challenge from the host.”
Thailand has now settled for third-place in Pool E which consisted of China, Qatar, Korea and Thailand. On the other hand, victorious Chinese team clean swept the round and earned 6 points. Korea’s team has held the second spot by attaining 5 points. Thailand
is third, while Qatar is in fourth position with 0 score.
China is scheduled to take on Chinese Taipei in the next match. The team is determined to repeat 3-0 score and extend their winning streak.
