China secures Women’s 400m medley relay crown: Day five – 2011 World University Games
Day five of the 2011 World University Games ended with the scintillating splash of Chinese swimmers in Shenzhen, China, on Thursday, August 18. The session of the meet conducted Women’s 400m medley relay final.
In the corresponding race, China’s team of Gao Chang, Sun Ye, Lu Ying and Tang Yi captured the golden crown on the podium by posting a winning time of 3 minutes and 59.15 seconds. That splash broke the previous best time of 4 minutes and 01.90 seconds, set
by United States back in the 2009 edition of the meet.
Meanwhile, US swimmers took home the silver medal on the podium by submitting a matchless time of 4 minutes and 00.15 seconds. USA's squad consisted of Jenny Connolly, Annie Chandler, Lyndsay DePaul and Megan Romano.
The bronze medal of the meet was taken over by Japan with an impressive time of 4 minutes and 00.98 seconds. The Japanese team comprised of Shiho Sakai, Satomi Suzuki, Tomoyo Fukuda and Yayoi Matsumoto.
Additionally, United States’ Haley Anders won the Women’s 1500m freestyle title with a sterling time of 16 minutes and 21.72 seconds. Melania Schmid Costa of Spain snared silver title in a time of 16 minutes and 21.79 seconds, while Lauren Boyle of New Zealand
sealed for bronze in a time of 16 minutes and 26.37 seconds.
Moreover, Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh took home the Men’s 400m IM crown on the podium by submitting a fastest time of 4 minutes and 12.67 seconds. Yuya Horihata of Japan picked silver in a time of 4 minutes and 13.66 seconds, while William Harris of USA settled
for bronze in a time of 4 minutes and 15.40 seconds.
Furthermore, the Men’s 200m freestyle crown was clinched by United States’ Matthew Mclean with a victorious time of 1 minute and 47.44 seconds. Meanwhile, Clement Lefert of France earned silver in a time of 1 minute and 47.78 seconds, whereas, Sho Uchida
of Japan settled for bronze with a matchless time of 1 minute and 49.06 seconds.
