China stays on top in Pool B of 2012 AVC Women’s Club Volleyball Championship – Volleyball news
With three consecutive victories in the preliminary robin-round of 2012 AVC Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, China’s Tianjin Bridgestone became the top team of Pool B on Day-3.
The thrilling volleyball action of Asian teams kicked off on Saturday, April 21 and a total of 10 entered the competition. The city of Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand is playing host to the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, which will further serve
as qualifying stage for the 2012 FIVB World Women’s Club Volleyball Championship slated for October. One successful from the on-going championship will earn the ticket to Doha, Qatar for the World Championship.
In the first match of the tournament, Chinese squad took on Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Almaty that proved to be a tough competitor. The Kazak ladies staged a great fight with Chinese counterparts and pushed the game to last limits. The match spanned over tiring
five sets and finally came to an end with 3-2 (25–20 25–18 22–25 20–25 15–11) score. Tianjin Bridgestone of China claimed three sets in comparison to Kazakhstan’s two sets and settled for victory. It was a hard earned victory for China as Kazakhstan applied
each and every tactic to win the match.
Opening victory in the tournament enabled Chinese team to grab more success in the following days. Tianjin Bridgestone went against Malaysian Santa Barbara in the next match on Sunday. The charged-up Chinese squad did not allow Malaysian side to come up.
Tianjin ladies dominated the scene from start to end and clinched success in straight sets. The Santa Barbara team dropped first set after scoring only 12 points. In the next two sets, the team totally collapsed and ended up with 5 and 4 points, respectively.
Chinese squad comfortably seized victory and moved to 2-0 in the tournament.
The experienced Chinese team crossed its path with underdog Sri Lankan team in the third match of the 2012 AVC Women’s Club Volleyball Championship. SLBFE of Sri Lanka did not post a scare of defeat on China’s Tianjin.
Team China made a strong opening in the match and influenced the opponents with find display of volleyball skills. The ball frequently landed on SLBFE’s half, while Tianjin scored consecutive points. China captured the opening set with heavy margin and did
equally well in the second set. SLBFE failed to stay in the way of killing spikes and deadly aces. Sri Lankans lost the second set in similar fashion. Tianjin Bridgestone showed no mercy and continued with hard hitting in third set. Eventually, the Chinese
side settled for 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-9) victory.
At the end of Day-3 China emerged as top team of Pool B and also qualified for the quarterfinals.
