China strong favourites to clinch titles in all categories at 2012 London Olympics: Badminton news
China, being the top badminton nation in the world, will be the strong favourite to clinch titles in all categories at the 2012 London Olympics. The assumption can be made after the stunning performance that Chinese shuttlers have delivered in last week’s
2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Arena in London.
The Chinese shuttlers made their country proud as they bagged titles in all categories including the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Their stunning performance at the Wembley Arena in London has made them
determined to repeat the same results at the 2012 London Olympics, which will also take place at the same venue.
China won all five titles for the second consecutive time, which indicates that Chinese shuttlers are far ahead of the rest of the world in the arena of badminton.
On the final day of the World Championships, the Men’s Singles fight between World Number One, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei and World Number Two, China’s Lin Dan was interesting as both shuttlers remained neck-to-neck for three games and it was the Chinese who
emerged as the winner with a tight margin. All other matches were completely dominated by Chinese shuttlers, as they easily thrashed all of their opponents.
While talking about Chinese shuttlers, James Selvaraj, the high performance director of Malaysia, said, “China has depth in their team. They are highly motivated and come into every tournament very prepared.
He also appreciated the hunger shown by Chinese shuttlers and said, “For Lin Dan and Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng, it was their fourth world titles but they never showed any lack of fire. In fact, they went all out as though they were going after their first world
title.”
While talking about the prospects of the Chinese team at the 2012 London Olympics, Selvaraj said, “They are heavy favourites for a clean sweep at next year’s London Olympics. All the other teams, including Malaysia, will have to a lot of work to challenge
them here at the same venue.”
Now, all shuttlers from different countries will be working hard to win the gold medal at the Olympic Games, which are less than one year away.
