China sweeps Iran in a 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup match - Volleyball news
The Chinese men’s national volleyball team met with their Iranian counterparts today in a 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup match that was being played in Fukuoka, Japan, on November 29. The match was part of the third day of the third round of the championship
at Marine Messe. The Chinese squad won by making a clean sweep over their Asian rivals.
Not only did the Chinese manage to win the match in three back to back sets, they did so by smothering the Iranians and dominating the game all through. The first set saw the two teams level off for a little while but before long the Chinese were able to
take the lead and extend their advantage whereas the Iranians kept trailing all the way behind till the end that rested with a Chinese win. The second set of the game went the same way as the opening frame with the Iranians starting well but losing steam too
quickly as a result of which the Chinese were able to land another set win. The loss of the first two sets further decreased the morale of the Iranians who only put in a half hearted effort in the third set and made it easier for the Chinese to bag a win and
seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17.
The coach of the Chinese team, Jianan Zhou, expressed himself in the following manner after his team had won the match: "I'm really happy about this first victory at the World Cup. Our team never gave up. We were finally rewarded for our hard work."
On the other hand, the coach of the Iranian side, Julio Velasco made the following statements to express himself after his team had lost: "This will be a good experience for the future. The Iran team has improved a lot about mentality, but not enough. The
mental preparation was not good by our players. We had surprise wins over Argentina, Serbia and Poland and they might have been looking ahead in the tournament.”
