China: the undisputed leader in the mega event of World Badminton Championships
China has become an undisputed leader in the mega event of World Badminton Championships. The World Championship is the most prestigious event after Olympics, which pulls the attention of the top players from all around the world. Thirteen countries so far
have enjoyed the honour of hosting this mega event. This mega event started in 1977 and 18 editions have been organised by the year, 2010. This is an individual event and participation in this event is open for all countries of the world.
The initial two events were organised with a three-year interval, however, after the event of 1983 it was decided by the International Badminton Federation that this mega event would be organised once in every two years. After the World Championships of
2005, it was decided that this tournament will be organised once in every year. Now the prestigious tournament takes place every year. Currently England is the venue for the 19th edition of this lucrative event.
Among the hosting nations that have organised the World Badminton Championships so far are, Sweden (1977), Indonesia (1980, 89), Denmark (1983, 91, 99), Canada (1985), China (1987), England (1993, 2003), Switzerland (1995), Scotland (1997), Spain (2001,
2006), United States (2005), Malaysia (2007), India (2009) and France (2010). England will be hosting this mega event for the third time this year as 19th BWF World Championships will be held from August 8-14,  in Wembley, London.
In 1977 and 1980 world championships, China was unable to win any gold medal in any category of the game. Denmark and Indonesia became the best nations winning the medals in these two championships. China started its winning run in 1983, in which two gold
medals were claimed by the Chinese players. Chinese shuttlers won all of the five gold medals in the World Championships of 1987 and again in 2010 the same results were produced by the incredible shuttlers form China.
China is clearly leading the medals table by winning 48 gold medals. The second highest performer is Indonesia having 18 gold medals to its credit. Denmark has won 10 gold medals and Korea is not far behind the Denmark as it has taken nine gold medals in
the world championships. England has won three gold medals in the mega event so far. Medals table shows the unchallenging supremacy of China and no other country even close to its achievements.
Malaysia is the most unfortunate country that has a strong Badminton culture and has been producing world class players, but is still unable to win any gold medal in the entire history of the event. Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei is the world number one, who has
also won numerous titles, but failed to break the dead lock in the World Championships so far. He never surpassed the semi-final stage of any mega event.
In the proceedings, all top guns from all around the world will be contesting for the glory in the World Badminton Championships, which will be held in London, England from August 8-14. Malaysia has strong chances of finishing its bad run in the mega event
as the current top ranked Lee Chong Wei will hopefully be the top contestant over there.
China will also be there for another milestone as it has the top shuttlers in all categories on its side. The ruling World Champion Chen Jin and the former three times world champion and reigning Olympic Champion Lin Dan will be there to make the event thrilling
for the Badminton pundits all over the world.
