  1. They are very adept as stealing blueprints. I once talked to a retired General who said that they have a town where they train people to act and talk like Americans just so that they can come over here, buy a product for cloning, and bring it back. It is cheaper to train someone than to spend millions developing products themselves. They take things like TV's and such, since even they can cost well over a million to develop.

He told me it about 3 years ago I think, and now its just become public that they have a decentralized network in the US just as he had said they did.

  2. Actually, there are a lot of clone parts for the Harley coming out of China, and, if my information is accurate, a lot of OEM parts for Harleys are Chinese made.

    Now, my main answer

Chinese aircraft development is glacially slow, and not close to threatening European and US dominance in 100pax+ aircraft.  In the 1980's the Chinese started production of the Shenyang J-8 'Finback', which showcased the very best of, um....1950's technology.

Reverse engineering any modern aircraft is very difficult, so the aim is to steal designs.

I will say that 100-200 seat airlliner is no "jumbo" tough.

  3. China has announced plans to begin development of an airliner of "more than 150 seats". The AP released a news story about this that used the term "jumbo jets" repeatedly, but a 150 to 200 seat airliner is hardly a a "jumbo jet", and certainly not a "747 Clone".

  4. They do make MD-80/90 and have been for a long time.

  5. If China wants to build a large airplane, they will do it. No problem.

  6. They don't appear to be able to make houses that withstand earthquakes

This is not a joke, but it is a reminder that no nation is infalable. terribly sad.

The chinese do reverse engineer lots of products, its true. I complete against Chinese companies. We both have similar products, they come in at 10% of my cost....not 10% less, but 10% absolute !! To do that I don't beleive they coudl recoup the cost of the product design, so it must be reverve engineered from thier competitors.

som people say "good luck to them", but at the end of the day its the innovators that are going out of business, leaving us with companies that can "copy" - what use is that ?

  7. i hav to admit that the Chinese always make a copy of an existing aircraft like the copied MiGs

  8. They are working on a regional jet. It is no where near as large as 747 or as capable. Looks more like an Embraer. They have developed some fighter designs that are at least equal to earlier F-16's. Not the latest. They also still buy and build from kits lots of Russia's most advanced fighters like Su-27 and Su-30. China does steal technology. Sadly it is not the only nation that does. But many of the goods China produces are articles that are obsolete and to labor extensive in the west now. An example is the way they produce a very good copy of the Winchester model 97 shotgun. Production in America stopped about seventy years ago. They also don't regulate their industries well so toys show up with lead paint regularly. One reason that South Korea is not on the early list to receive the F-35 or Taiwan is the possibility mainland China might somehow get their hands on one. It is a big reason Japan has so far been unable to buy the F-22 as well........
