China will win World Snooker Championship one day, says Ding Junhui – Snooker News
Winner of the 2012 Welsh Open snooker tournament, China’s Ding Junhui enjoyed a convincing recent snooker season and has now headed to England to take part in the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
This year, five Chinese potters have made their way into the televised stages of the mega event which is a record. Junhui believes that one day the World Snooker Championship title will be awarded to a Chinese cueman.
Only Junhui was already seeded in the first round while the rest of the Chinese cueists made their way into the Last 32 after performing brilliantly in the qualifying session of the event.
These potters include Hong Kong’s Marco Fu, Liang Wenbo, the former Asian Under-21 World Snooker Champion Cao Yupeng and Liu Chuang. All these Chinese cuemen are aiming to perform at their best and book their place in the recognised potters around the world.
Meanwhile, the World Number 10, Junhui is happy to see snooker getting so much space in the Chinese community and believes that the day is not far when a Chinese potter will become the World Champion.
The Star of the East is very confident of winning the title for his country and he must be aiming to give his best and clinch the title.
Speaking to Yorkshire Post, Junhui said, “I hope one day a Chinese player can win the World Championship, I am trying hard. But winning the World Championship is very difficult, because of the long matches. There are still a lot of good young players in
the UK and from Europe, they are getting better.”
The Chinese Sensation added, “Snooker is growing very quick in China. There are good young players in China, but they need to practice hard and come to see what snooker is like here because it’s very different.”
Junhui is up against the Welsh potter, Ryan Day in the first round of the Championship. He has played against the Welshman before and had a good track record against him. The clash will be interesting to watch. The Chinese cuemen will the ones to watch with
their dynamic and aggressive approach to the game.
