China’s Cai Yun says Wembley Arena still lacks some facilities – Badminton news
China’s World Number one, Cai Yun, who has recently clinched his fourth Men’s Doubles title at the 2011 World Championships with the partnership of Fu Haifeng, says that the Wembley Arena still lacks some facilities which should be there by the 2012 London
Olympics.
The BWF World Championships have recently ended at the famous Wembley Indoor Arena in London, England, which will also be the venue for the badminton event at the Olympic Games, next year.
Cai Yun said that overall presentation of the tournament was good, but there are certain things which should be dealt with including the absence of proper changing rooms and the warm-up exercise area.
After winning the Men’s Doubles final match against Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong, the Chinese said, “This tournament was important because it is the venue for the Olympic Games. The playing hall is good but not some of the other facilities.”
He further added, “They spent millions to renovate this place but it did not have a proper changing room for the players. We have to use the toilets and it was quite cumbersome. They also lacked proper facilities for players to stretch and warm-down. I hope
they will look into it.”
While talking about the court that was used in for title matches of all categories, Cai Yun said, “Usually, the final matches should have been on the centre court but it was pushed right to a corner. It felt awkward.”
The purpose of organising the World Championship at the Wembley Arena was to test the venue for the 2012 London Olympics. The overall presentation of the tournament by officials was good. Despite the success, the Chinese shuttler wants to draw their attention
towards some facilities which should be provided to make players comfortable.
However, the shuttler also praised the officials for organising the World Championships in a professional manner. He also appreciated the attractive innovations presented for the crowd before the start of the matches and the Double Decker bus for the entrance
of shuttlers into the Wembley Arena.
