China’s Chen Jin and Kai Wen ease into the top 16: 2011 Badminton Asia Championship
China’s Chen Jin and Kai Wen eased into the top 16 in the men’s singles category after their comfortable victories over their opponents in the second round of the 2011 Badminton Asia Championships, at Sichuan in China, today on 20 April. In the second round, the fifth seed, Chen, defeated Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia in straight sets, whereas Kai brushed aside Pakkawat Vilailak of Thailand in similar fashion.
The ruling world champion, Chen, tamed the young Malaysian, Soon Huat, in just 33 minutes. In the first set of the match, Chen progressed quickly and established a 6-point lead and reached at 11-5 at the end of the opening half of the first game. The fifth seed remained on track after the interval and finished the first set with a big margin of 21-10, in just 18 minutes.
In the second game, Soon Huat tried to play better by accelerating his speed, but failed to stop the aggressive run of Chen, who was playing a perfect game. The Chinese won the second set with a one-sided margin of 21-8, in just 15 minutes. The concluding score of this one-sided 33-minute match was, 21-10 and 21-8.
In another match of men’s singles, China’s Kai proved his skills against the Pakkawat of Thailand. Both players remained close in the first part of the opening game by playing at an equal pace. The score was 10-10, where the Chinese scored a point and took a slight lead of 11-10.
After the break, Pakkawat worked well and levelled the score at 15-15. The score remained equal and entered into the crucial stage of 20-20. In the ending moments of the first set, Kai played smart badminton, scored the remaining points and won the opening set with a 22-20 margin in 28 minutes.
In the second set, the Chinese delivered a stunning performance against Pakkawat and spared no opportunity for him to fight back in the game. Kai won the second set with a wonderful margin of 21-10, in just 18 minutes. The ending score of this 46-minute match was, 22-20 and 21-10.
In the round-of-16, Chen Jin will meet either, Sho Sasaki of Japan or Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif, whereas Kai Wen will take on the experienced team-mate and top seed and Lin Dan.
