China’s Chen Jin crushes Wong Choong Hann to penetrate into semi-final of the Thailand Open GP Gold
China’s Chen Jin has crushed Malaysian veteran, Wong Choong Hann, in the Men’s Singles quarter-final contest of the Thailand Open GP Gold 2011, at Bangkok, Thailand.
The fourth seed, Chen, who is the ruling World Champion, consumed only 30 minutes in the court to thrash the Malaysian, after a one-sided straight-set fight on Friday, June 10.
The World Number 11, Chen, played the perfect and open game he is famous for against the left-handed Malaysian, who could not match the speed of his opponent. The fourth seed faced no resistance at all from the 34-year-old Choong Hann, who never looked to be in the game.
The 16th seed Malaysian had defeated Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon in the pre-quarter-final contest, but he failed to continue his winning run against the mighty Chinese, who is a major contender for lifting the Men’s Singles title in the Thailand Open.
Jin opened his campaign against Choong Hann in a convincing manner, as he reached 11-4 without making any mistake. The Malaysian made many errors by hitting the bird wide of the court. His hasty strokes helped the Chinese to control the whole set.
After a 60-second interval, Chen put more speed and power in his strokes and moved his opponent in the all areas of the court to extend his lead. Choong Hann found no chance to fight back at any stage of the opening set. Chen clinched a one-set advantage by winning the opening game in just 17 minutes, with a surprising difference of 21-9.
In the following set, the fourth seed played top-class badminton and maintained his high speed, proving that he is physically much stronger when compared to Choong Hann, who became slower in the second game. Chen won the set in just 13 minutes with a one-sided score of 21-7. The match ended with a 21-9 and 21-7 score on the board.
In the semi-final of the event, the Chinese will take on either his compatriot, Wang Zhengming or Lee Hyun Il of Korea.
