China’s Ding Junhui hits semi-final clash after beating Ali Carter in quarters of 2012 China Open
Local favourite, Ding Junhui played impressively at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium against the former World Snooker Championship finalist, Ali Carter. The Chinese potters completely outplayed his opponent in the quarter-final of 2012 China Open
snooker tournament and was able to hit the semi-final spot against the former World Snooker Champion, Peter Ebdon.
The spectators gathered at the arena were expecting the same performance from their home favourite. Despite the fact that he did not play against Selby in the second round because he was suffering from a neck injury and could not continue his performance,
Junhui showed tremendous performance against the Englishman, Ali Carter to defeat him by 5-2.
The quarter-final clash was an easy victory for the Chinese Sensation. He clinched the first frame quite easily to move within one frame up at 1-0 to lead the game. Carter sprang back into the game with a classy century break of 102 to pull level at 1-1.
The third frame was a scrappy one as both potters went neck-and-neck during the game. Carter led the frame first but missed on a red to let Junhui at the table who swept the baize to hit the lead again 2-1.
The fourth frame was taken by Carter to equalise the game 2-2 before the end of the first session. The second session of the match was totally dominated by the Star of the East who clinched three consecutive frames to nudge his opponent down easily by the
score line of 5-2. Carter was disappointed over his defeat as he was unable to perform up to the mark.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, Carter said, “I wasn't feeling that great, I felt quite tired throughout the whole match. My stomach hasn't been very good since I've been here.”
Carter has been suffering from Crohn’s disease and was at the brink to retire from the sport. However, he is considering the decision to leave the game at the end of the current season.
Meanwhile, Junhui will meet the former World Snooker Champion, Peter Ebdon in the semi-final clash of the tournament at the same venue.
