China’s Ding Junhui surges into 2012 Championship League Snooker Winners’ Group
Tremendous snooker show from the 2012 Welsh Open snooker tournament winner from China, Ding Junhui booked him a place in the Winners’ Group of 2012 Championship League Snooker. Despite the fact that Junhui was not able to perform accordingly on the first
day, the second day was totally dominated by him as he cruised into three match wins to ensure his spot in the Winners’ Group.
The Chinese Sensation played against Marcus Campbell of Scotland, the former World Snooker Championship from England, Peter Ebdon and the Welshman Dominic Dale in the group matches. After winning three group matches, the Chinese made his way into the playoffs
where he defeated Campbell again in the semi-finals and England’s Tom Ford in the final encounter to confirm his Winners’ Group entrance.
Speaking to the local media after winning the spot, Junhui said, “I felt good today and played well. I felt tired yesterday but today was much better. I would like to qualify for the Premier League because I really enjoy playing in it. This is also very
good match practice for the China Open next week and I hope I can keep up this form.”
The Star of the East did not face any trouble during his round-robin formatted group matches except his clash against Campbell as the game ended in a decisive set. He did not face any trouble in the rest of his group matches and earned whitewash wins against
Ebdon and Dale.
Junhui breezed into 2-0 lead early in his game against Campbell after compiling a couple of cracking knocks of 82 and 84. The Scotsman replied brilliantly with back-to-back frame wins hitting a sensational break of 93 in the fourth frame. The Chinese dominated
the final frame completely and fired a scintillating clearance of 109 to finish the match in astounding fashion.
Campbell came across Junhui again in the semi-finals but this time the Wuxi potter did not allow the Scot to score even a single frame win and washed the baize in no time with 3-0 scores. The 24-year-old Junhui encountered England’s Tom Ford in the ultimate
battle. The competition was a pushover for the Jiangsu cueman as he flashed into the victory with a stunning 3-0 score line to occupy a deserving position in the Winners’ Group of 2012 Championship League Snooker.
