China’s h*i Xirui thrashes Tang Wan Yi in opening round of Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships
China’s h*i Xirui proved her skills as she thrashed Chinese Taipei’s Tang Wan Yi in the Women’s Singles opening round of the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011, at Lucknow, India, on Tuesday, July 6.
Xirui took only 26 minutes of court time to beat Wan Yi in a straight-set fight, proving that she belongs to a country which is considered as the most dominating powerhouse of badminton.
The Chinese girl opened her campaign against Wan Yi in an authoritative manner, as she was dictating the pace of the game with wonderful ease. She was stable at the base line and her sharp reflexes left no space for Wan Yi to place her strokes. Until the
interval, the Chinese reached in a comfortable position of 11-6.
After taking 60-second break, Xirui continued her control over the pace of the rallies as she was playing a fast game at the net. Wan Yi could not cope up with the speed and perfectly placed strokes of her rival. The Chinese took a one-set lead by clinching
the opening game with a difference of 21-12, in just 12 minutes.
However, Wan Yi started to dominate the game in the start of the second set, but failed to take a good lead as her challenger was playing much better. Until the interval in the second set, the Chinese was slightly ahead at 11-10.
After the break, both shuttlers tried to play at their best, however, Xirui managed to play better badminton against the Taipei opponent, who was made many unforced errors in the second-half of the second set. The Chinese remained composed and scored points
by waiting for the weak return from her opponent.
Xirui made no error in the concluding phase of the second game by playing safely in the middle of the court and won the set by a margin of 21-17, in just 14 minutes. The Chinese finished off the straight-set match in just 26 minutes with a 21-12 and 21-17
score on the board.
