China’s Jin Long tumbles down against England’s Robert Milkins in Round 2: 2012 World Open
After showing an unforgettable performance against the 2012 Welsh Open champion Ding Junhui, China’s Jin Long made his way into the second round of 2012 World Open where he lost his run against the Englishman, Robert Milkins who defeated him by the score
line of 5-2.
The Chinese snooker fans were shocked when they saw a mere amateur like Long beating the world renowned potter Junhui in their first round match at the Haikou Stadium arena in Hainan Island. The Chinese Sensation, Junhui, had no chance against the youngster
and slipped down easily. Long made his way into the second round where he was due to play Milkins.
Milkins was impressive against Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in his opening match and ousted him by 5-3 score line to successfully book second round spot. The odds of Milkins-Maguire battle were stacked against the Englishman but he showed guts and triumphed
over the Scotsman.
At the end of Session 1 in Long-Milkins Last-16 clash, Milkins was leading the game with 3-1 after smashing a couple of small breaks. He began the second session with a superb 106 break to get into 4-2 lead and finished the match at 5-2 with a decent knock
of 39.
Speaking to the World Snooker after his win, Milkins said, “We both started slowly and it was quite scrappy at first but towards the end I felt really good and all those hard hours of practice at the South West Snooker Academy started to pay off and I felt
quite sharp at the end.”
Te 35-year-old added, “He's a good player, and he should be on the main tour. I've played him twice as a pro and he beat me both times, so I knew it was going to be a tough game. I needed to step up a gear when he got to 3-2 and I believe I did that at the
end.”
Milkins is now up against one of the toughest opponents in the history of snooker, the reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins in the quarter-finals. The 36-year-old Higgins came through after beating England’s Jamie Cope with a whitewash
score line of 5-0 in their second round contest.
