China’s Lin Dan desires to continue playing like Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade – Badminton News
China’s most celebrated shuttler, Lin Dan, wants to continue playing badminton despite his growing age. He wants to persist playing the sport like Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade, who is still performing at an old age.
The 27-year-old Lin, who is the ruling Olympic Champion and has also clinched three Men’s Singles titles in the World Badminton Championships, is determined to play professional badminton as long as his physical fitness allows him to.
After winning his Sudirman Cup match against Peter Gade, Lin Said, “My next goal is to become China’s Peter Gade because I really hope to play until I am 35-years-old. I hope that more young players from China can learn from Peter and stay active for a long
time in the sport.”
Lin, who defeated Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is determined to defend the Men’s Singles title in the 2012 London Olympics.
After knowing the Lin’s intention to continue playing badminton, Peter Gade expressed his views about playing in the 30’s and said that he is very proud for being a top player, even though he is 34-years-old.
The Danish shuttler further added, “Lin Dan and (Lee) Chong Wei are really tough players to compete against and I have to do my utmost best in my everyday’s practice. I hope that Lin Dan will still be around for a few years more.”
Peter Gade appreciated the performance of Lin by saying that the Chinese is the best shuttler in the entire history of Badminton.
While playing the Sudirman Cup, the Danish shuttler said that he will not be around in the next edition of this biggest mixed team event in 2013. He is expected to retire from competitive badminton after the 2012 London Olympics.
Lin is currently ranked at the Number Three spot in the Men’s Singles world rankings. The Chinese is eyeing his fourth title in the World Championships, as the mega event is just three months away. The Chinese shuttler is in good shape at the moment and
will be playing in two major events in the upcoming month of June.
