China’s Wang Shixian confident to win gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics
World Number Two shuttler, Wang Shixian from China is considered as one of the most dynamic female shuttlers in the world of badminton. She has been displaying a terrific performance for the last couple of years and has truly proved her worth in the Women’s
Singles category. She expressed her optimism by declaring that she is hoping to win the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, which is less than a year away.
The Chinese girl had bagged six major titles in the last one and half year. She won the Korea Open and Swiss Open events last year, and captured the first event of 2011 by winning the BWF Super Series finals. She continued her impressive winning streak and
won the lucrative title of the Malaysia Open Super Series in Kuala Lumpur.
The 21-year-old expressed that the 2012 London Olympics will be a thrilling event to watch, as all top shuttlers will be there to win the title. She is quite determined to put up a great show to win the gold medal at the mega event, as she is the top bet
from China who is expected to win the Women’s Singles title at the Olympic Games.
Shixian is known for her superb technique and variations in her strokes, which earn her a considerable advantage over all of her opponents. She becomes quick all of a sudden and disturbs the flow of her rivals which makes her a dangerous challenger. Her
wonderful stamina, sharp movement, superb defensive skills and powerful down the line smashes have made her the best in the business throughout the world of badminton.
Wang Shixian also expressed that anybody can emerge victorious while playing in crucial stages at major events like World Championships and Olympic Games, as the difference of quality is just minute. Shixian also knows that maintaining the high standard
of performance in the presence of talented and competent shuttlers is quite difficult, especially when the difference between players is quite minor.
At the 2011 BWF World Championships, Shixian suffered a stunning defeat from the hands of lower-ranked shuttler form Chinese Taipei. She struggled throughout the match and failed to find a good flow which resulted in her defeat. The loss was a major upset
in the Women’s Singles draw of the Championship which also hit the confidence of the Chinese player, who was not playing to her full potential against the Taipei shuttler.
The result in the Women’s Singles draw at the World Championships will certainly push Shixian to work more hard in training sessions and become stronger for the 2012 London Olympics, which will be held at the Wembley Arena in London, England.
Shixian is expected to deliver better results at the Olympic Games, although she has a tough road towards the Olympic gold as many other shuttlers from Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Denmark and India are rapidly improving their game. Shixian, the winner of the
Malaysian Open is confident to make a good run at the London Olympics as she is one of the main contestants for the title.
