China’s Wang Shixian eases into Women’s Singles quarter-final of the China Masters Super Series
China’s second seed, Wang Shixian eased into the Women’s Singles quarter-final as she hammered Mingtian Fu of Singapore in the round-of-16 of the 2011 China Masters Super Series, in Changzhou, China, on Thursday, September 15.
World Number Two, Shixian, who is also the second seed in Women’s Singles draw of China Masters, lived up to expectations as she played fabulous badminton against a spirited Mingtian. The Chinese shuttler finished the round-of-16 match in straight games
by taking 37 minutes of court time.
Shixian opened the first game in an attacking manner, but her opponent was also playing aggressive badminton and the score remained close. The Chinese played with great variations in her strokes and made her challenger move around in all corners, but Mingtian
was quicker in picking the bird early. Until the interval, Shixian managed to secure a two-point difference at 11-9.
After the interval, the second seed Chinese played to her maximum potential and controlled the rallies. She was playing a planned game and her target was the rear court corners and the side lines of the court, as she earned most points in these areas. The
unforced errors of Mingtian at this crucial stage of the opening set helped her opponent to dominate the rallies and finish the set with the score of 21-15.
Mingtian changed her strategy and played a different game in the opening points of the second set, but her opponent was quicker in executing powerful strokes. The accurate smashes of Shixian forced the Singaporean to adopt a defensive approach, and the Chinese
shuttler remained successful in her tactics. The higher ranked Chinese reached at 11-5 in the opening part of the second game.
After taking rest for 60 seconds, Shixian remained fully focused in the game and played with deception in her strokes which disturbed the flow of her rival. Her aggressive approach earned her a comfortable win in the second set with a margin of 21-12. Shixian
emerged as the winner of this pre-quarter-final fight with a 21-15 and 21-12 score on the board.
