China’s Wang Xin wins Women’s Singles title at the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series – Badminton News
China’s Wang Xin, who is currently placed at Number Two spot in the ranking for Women’s Singles, clinched the title after beating Denmark’s Tine Baun, in the final battle of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series, held in Singapore, on June 19, 2011.
The Chinese shuttler proved her worth in straight-sets against Tine, who thrashed the World Number One, Wang Shixian of China, in the semi-final of the championship.
After winning the match, the 18-year-old Xin expressed her feelings and said, “I’m delighted to have finally won an (OSIM BWF World) Superseries title this year and I’m happy to have won it in Singapore.”
She further added, “I have never played a final in Singapore so I am very happy. Tine had beaten many top China players and I had to prepare very well and play to my best to win today’s final.”
After losing the final match to the second seed Chinese, the Danish said that she made many mistakes in the encounter. She also acknowledged that Xin played better badminton.
Tine appreciated her opponent’s performance and said, “Wang Xin is a better attacker than Wang Shixian and also Wang Xin is left-handed and fast on her feet. Hence, her shots come differently and she has more angles than Wang Shixian.”
In the first set, both ladies were close until the second-half of the game, where the Chinese controlled the pace by playing mature badminton. She controlled her nerves and waited for the right opportunity to win points without hitting any hasty strokes.
Xin finished the set by a 21-19 margin.
The second game was easier for Xin when compared to the previous set. The Chinese injected more speed in her strokes and became quicker at the net to put pressure on her rival. Tine was struggling as she leaned forward to return the perfectly placed net
strokes, which made her shaky at the base line. Xin won the game by a 21-17 margin without any considerable trouble.
Xin will play in the upcoming Singapore Open Premier Super Series 2011, which will start from June 21, in Indonesia. All top female shuttlers will be contesting in this event to win ranking points and attain a better place for the 2012 Olympic Games.
