China’s Wang Yihan grabs Women’s Singles crown at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton news
China’s young and talented shuttler, Wang Yihan played remarkable badminton and grabbed the Women’s Singles crown after crushing Cheng Shao Chieh of Chinese Taipei in the final of the 2011 World Championships, on August 14, at the Wembley Indoor Arena in
London.
The current World Number Two, Yihan, who is known for her aggressive style of play, delivered a phenomenal performance throughout the tournament and continued her winning run in the final against the World Number Eight, Shao Chieh.
The Chinese played to her full potential and clinched the final match by beating her opponent in straight games with a 21-15 and 21-10 margin. She gave no chance to the Taipei shuttler to dominate at any stage of the match and remained on the driving seat
in the whole battle.
The Chinese player, who was the second seed in the Women’s Singles event, opened her campaign in fascinating fashion as she quickly got a good lead in the first-half. Shao Chieh tried to play at her highest speed for a few points but she lost her control
and made many unforced mistakes which helped Yihan to win the first game with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, the talented Chinese continued her wonderful power-play by maintaining the pace at a highest level. She was driving the rallies with superb control and perfection, which put her opponent in trouble. Yihan played with accuracy and her shot
selection was perfect, which helped her in grabbing the second game with a stunning 21-10 score.
After winning the Women’s Singles crown, Yihan Said, “I went in without any pressure and enjoyed the game. It made it easier for me to beat my opponent today.”
She further added, “I did not let my country down this time and I am very pleased with what I have achieved. It will give me a lot of confidence.”
By winning the title at the World Championships, Yihan proved that she has everything in her possession to lead the world in the category of Women’s Singles.
