China’s Wang Yihan makes it to the final of All England Open – Badminton News
The Chinese badminton queen Wang Yihan made into the final of the Women’s singles event after beating compatriot female shuttler Wang Shixian in the semi-final of All England Open on March 10, 2012.
The Chinese shuttler Wang Yihan ensured her presence in the final by ending an epic one hour and 26 minutes semi-final tussle in her favour. She hammered her compatriot, the World Number three Wang Shixian with final score of 20-22, 21-18 and 21-18.
It is now China everywhere in the finals as the World Number one Wang Yihan will face another Chinese shuttler Xuerui Li in the final contest of World’s oldest badminton tournament, the All England Open.
In semi-final match both players mesmerised the audience with their craft and kept the spectators intact throughout this encounter. The losing contender Wang Shixian put on a great show and dragged her rival all the way through three sets.
The third seeded Wang Shixian bagged the first match point by winning a neck-to-neck first set. The nerve-racking tussle belonged to Wang Shixian when she forced her rival to bow down by ticking the final score of 22-20 on the score board.
However, Wang Yihan did not lose her nerve and bounced back in the following sets. She brought life back into match and levelled the lead in second set by pushing Wang Shixian on back foot with her gutsy performance.
The World Number one female Wang Yihan ended the tussle with scorers displaying final figures of 21-18 in her favour.
The third set turned into survival of the fittest as both players were at the same level with a 1-1 match score. The two Chinese semi-finalists tested their physical and mental strength but the final score of 21-18 proved to be the last nail in the coffin
for Wang Shixian as Wang Yihan overwhelmed her rival with this final blow.
The World Champion Wang Yihan will compete against World Number five Xuerui Li, another Chinese shuttler, in the final to ensure Chinese supremacy in the Women’s singles event.
It is crystal clear now that China is definitely going to hold the crown for the eighth time in the short period of the decade.
