China’s Wang Yihan wins Women’s Singles title at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011
China’s young shuttler, Wang Yihan, won her first Women’s Singles title in Indonesia, as she defeated the defending champion, Saina Nehwal of India, in the final of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011. The encounter was held in Indonesia, on June
26, 2011.
World Number Three, Yihan, had to dig deep into her reserves to chuck out Saina in a thrilling rubber-set fight, which took 65 minutes of tremendous badminton in front of the huge Indonesian crowd in Jakarta.
In the opening set of the game, it was Saina who remained in superb control of the game as she showed no mercy to the Chinese. At the interval in the opening game, the Indian was leading the set with an 11-8 margin. Saina's technique worked really well,
as she maintained her dominance at the net and earned many points by playing superb spinning net strokes.
Yihan failed to play better badminton in the first set, where her rival was playing at her highest level of the game. The Chinese lost the first game in just 19 minutes with a big difference of 12-21.
The second game was a close fight between the two elite shuttlers. The score progressed with equal pace in the start, however, Yihan managed a two-point lead of 11-9 at the interval.
The Chinese was leading the second set by a margin of 18-15, where the Indian geared up her speed by hitting the bird hard on the back-hand side of her challenger and reached at 20-19. At this crucial stage of the match, the Chinese refused to give up and
managed to win the game by a 23-21 margin, in 27 minutes.
In the final set, both ladies played good badminton, however, Yihan started to dominate the game by putting pressure on the Indian. Saina was struggling to return the bird from her fore-hand side, as she lost many points in that part of the court.
Yihan won the final set in remarkable fashion with a 21-14 margin, in 19 minutes. The three-set match of 65 minutes ended with a 12-21, 23-21 and 21-14 margin.
