  1. The written language. Look at Japanese writing and Chinese writing. There are similarities, and some words are identical.

  2. China influenced Japan in many aspects of life. For example, Buddhism. India spread Buddhism to China then China to Korea then Korea to Japan. If you look closely, their architecture  closely resembles. As someone had already mentioned, the written language. Japanese kanji is based on Chinese characters. Because of the similarities, it is said that Japanese people are descendants of Chinese people who were ordered by Qin Shihuangdi to look for eternal life, but they failed to find it, so they stayed behind and found Japan. Or it is said that Japanese people are closely related to people of the State of Wu, during the Spring and Autumn period.

But yea, Japan receives many Chinese influences from Korea, such as architecture and written language. There are more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

  3. China's influence on Medieval Japan include: introduction of Chinese characters (Alphabet); the introduction of the board game 'Go'; the introduction of 'Chan' Buddhism (Zen); the introduction of the 'Classics' such as Lao Tzu's THE ART OF WAR; introduction of horses; the introduction of Chinese martial arts.

The list goes on and on.  There is so much culture that Japan owes to the larger mainland civilization.  Japan adopted Chinese culture and modified it to suit the Japanese temperment.
