China’s tennis Chief charges the state training system for Li Na’s early exit at US Open – Tennis News
World number eight, Li Na, crashed out of the US Open Championship at the hands of the 18-year-old British booming starlet, Laura Robson, during the third round battle. It was a shocking defeat for the world but not for the China’s
tennis chief, Sun Jinfang, who stated some disturbing comments about the 30-year-old Chinese star.
Jinfang stated, “We have seen for a long time that Li Na can suddenly collapse. Why is this? Because athletes like her have not received a good education! Li Na has made the choice to concentrate on tennis from a very early age,
but a very important piece of her education has been missing. Consequently, she has not developed enough mentally. There are lots of things that she cannot work out for herself. She knows when she is on the verge of a (mental) collapse... but she does not
know how to react to this situation."
Li started training at a very young age and didn’t put emphasis on getting a quality education at the other end. However, the connection from the chief is definitely very illegitimate as the Chinese superstar has proved her worth
at the tennis court and despite being the underdog at the last year’s French Open Championship, she managed to hold on to her nerves and claim her first Grand Slam title. So, bashing her for no proper education is not the correct basis especially considering
that the left-handed Briton teenager was on a roll defeating her opponents and registering upsets.
Former world number one, Kim Clijsters, also failed to deliver against the British star so the loss of the number one Chinese star can be categorized as a bad luck instead of something vigorous as the chief stated.
Li fought for two hours and 25 minutes at the hard courts of New York before stooping to the breakthrough run of Robson. China’s sporting system is also criticized for not supporting their athletes in their tough times and this
seems to be a reply from the chief who is extremely gutted to witness an early exit of the 30-year-old Li.
Former French Open Champion, Li has requested the authorities to lessen the government controls on players and allow them to nurture in a better environment so that they can become great athletes at the elite platforms. Li is not
a part of the national state sports system that has a relaxed clause for tennis players to set up their own team to train retain major part of their prize money.
