  1. I actually don't think chinchillas are a burrowing animal as every one I've taken care of or seen never dug or burrowed (though they do "dig" up their dust before they roll in it).

What type of bedding you use is dependent on the type of cage you have. If you have a wire-bottomed cage that has a pull-out tray bottom also, then a natural, pelleted litter would be your best (and cheapest) choice. They are great at odor and moisture absorption.

If you have a cage with an open bottom (meaning your chinchilla is sitting on it), then Carefresh Original (grey color) is the best at odor control and will not harm your pet if ingested in small quantities. (It's also a comfier for your chinchilla). A cheaper alternative is aspen wood shavings, another safe wood.

Remember that you can never use pine as chinchilla bedding! =)

Have fun with your new friend; best of luck!

  2. either carefresh (grey fluffy bedding) Or yesterday's news small animal bedding which is cheaper.

  3. grey fluffy bedding. It absorbs smell! And they can dig in it.
