Just got a new chinchilla (demon) and before him i had another one and i put her in a ball some times but stopped because i was afraid she was getting to hot so i let her run around on the floor in my room but the problem was that shed run under my bed and i couldn’t get her and she got so used to the floor that she always wanted to jump down even when we where out side of the room so i don’t now what to do with the one i have right now i think he would me happier if i let him run around but i don’t now if it would be safe if he jumped down out side of the room because of the dog we have not to mention he’s d**n fast and it would be hard to catch him. Iv just found out that chinchilla balls are dangers so I don’t know what to do…..

  1. I would definitely suggest letting him run free rather than in a ball. I find it's too hard for my chinchillas to maneuver in it, and they just constantly run into things. If you don't want your chinchilla to run under your bed, block access underneath it. My boys constantly try to get under my futon to chew on it. So, to stop this, I began blocking it off with the use of blankets and pillows. Cardboard and other large objects would work as well. If you're worried about your chinchilla getting out of the room, shut the door. If you don't have a door, try finding a baby gate of some sort to block the doorway off.

  2. chinchillas are not supposed to run around in balls, i would let him run around the room, freely. balls are desgined for hamsters, and even the biggest sizes are not safe for chinchillas. you can let him run around the bed, where your dog cant get him

  3. If youre using the biggest ball then your chinchilla shouldnt get hot. But if youre worried about it maybe try getting a new ball but dont get the one with the holes in it, get the one with the lines... if that makes sense. Also, if you let your chinchilla run around alot, occasionally check his junk. I know, it sounds weird. But my chinchilla ran around alot and the hair around his junk got matted and actually caused him to get an infection which later caused a urinary tract infection. You dont have to worry about a girl as much as a boy though. Hope I helped!
