2.) Sometimes my chinchilla makes this loud squeaking noise in the middle of the night (rarely in the daytime) what does it mean?

  1. Chinchillas are social animals if they are raised together but I don't know how your chinchilla would be at this point if you gave him a friend.  My chinchilla usually only makes that squeaking noise if he is scared.

  2. I bought my chinchilla a companion, and she seems to be happier now.  However, the pet store told me she was a male so I bought another male.  One day, I woke up to two baby chinchilla's. LOL  The loud squeaking noise is normal.  Mine do it too, but I am not sure why.  If you do buy another chinchilla before putting them together, you need to get them used to one another.  Have another cage, and put the new chinchilla in it beside yours.  Do this for a couple of days, and then put them in the same cage.  The pet store told me to do this because he said they may fight if you just throw them together.

  3. well i had a hamster who was very lonely an the vet said it needed a friend, maybe it the same for you pet.

  4. Chinchillas are extremely social animals. In the wild they live in groups of up to 50 animals. So yes, I'd definitely consider getting a second one.

It depends on what sort of noise it is. Kacking is the term I use for the very loud barking noise they make. This barking can mean a few different things. "Leave me alone."  or "I want attention."

  5. I would definatley get another one.  they prefer company, and it probably wont squeak as much either
